What Are Some Causes of Premature Menopause?

Defined Tag:

Menopause is a condition that normally impacts women at some point between the ages of forty and fifty-five. However, there are situations that may lead to the onset of premature menopause as early as the age of thirty. Here are some examples of situations that can trigger premature menopause, and what can be done to treat this condition.

An abnormality in hormone production is one of the major reasons for premature menopause. Within this scenario, the body slows down or stops releasing eggs into the ovaries, and the ovaries begin to slow down in their production of estrogen. In some cases, it is possible to initiate a series of hormone therapy and jumps start the regular occurrence of menstruation. Often, this will be a series of treatment that will continue until the female reaches an age where she is open to entering a period of menopause.

In some cases, reaction to extremely strong life situations can result in the body kicking into premature menopause. Prolonged periods of grief, fear, or depression can impact the natural functions of the body, including menstruation. When unusually severe life experiences are causing the onset of premature menopause, often a combination of counseling and drug therapy will restore the balance, and allow the body to begin experiencing regular menstrual periods once again.

Damage to the ovaries, either due to an accident or an illness, can also contribute to the onset of premature menopause. Since so much of the process of menstruation involves the working of healthy ovaries, any condition that compromises ovary function will also impact the initiation of regular menstrual periods. Consulting with a physician when there has been damage to the ovaries will provide answers on the chances that the state of menopause can be arrested or reversed.

Premature menopause can mean the end of a woman's ability to have children, but that is not always the case. Depending on the circumstances, it may be possible to delay or even stop menopause, creating a window of opportunity for the young woman to be a mother.
